Seahaven Towers Help Site for users of Mac OS X

This is the support site for Seahaven Towers for users of Mac OS X. Please select one of the following links, or email us with your question:

Installation Troubleshooting

The most recent installer file is called LwSe0203.bin and should be translated automatically by your browser to the installer (Seahaven_0203_Installer.app). Double click on the installer to install the application. If you are installing onto MacOS X, you will be asked to supply the password for your system, which allows the installer to place the application in the local domain so it is available to all users of your computer. Next, choose the folder into which you wish to place the installation and click Install. The installer will create, if necessary, a folder called Longwood Wizards Guild in your installation folder. It will then create the folder Seahaven Towers 2.0 inside that folder, and it will install Seahaven.app, the Seahaven_LwSe0203_ReadMe.txt file, and the Seahaven Towers EULA file.

The installer will also create, if necessary, a folder called Longwood Wizards Guild in your Applications Support folder wherein it will install a few cached games to be found in the LwSe_CachedGames.lwpf file. That's it. Note that to create this last file Installer VISE will ask you in which System Folder you want to install this item. Nothing is placed in your System Folder other than what goes in the Applications Support folder, which is in your System Folder when you install on MacOS 9 and in your /Library folder when you install on MacOS X.

Purchasing the Product

There are two ways to purchase a license for Seahaven Towers. First, download the application and install it on a system running at least MacOS 9.1 or MacOS X. Run the application to make sure it works and to make sure it is to your liking. With each release after 2.0.1 you have a period of 45 days to evaluate the product before it expires. When you're ready to make a purchase, you can do it directly from within the application. When the application first starts up you are presented with a splash screen with buttons that provide several choices: Cancel (which quits), Later (which lets you play the game during your trial period), and Buy Online...

Click on Buy Online. A series of screen will appear that will create a secure connection with eSellerate. You can enter your personal information at the various prompts and finally enter your credit card number. When you complete the purchase process, your registration name and serial number will be delivered to you on your screen, where you can save or print a copy, and they will be sent to you via email, but they will also be entered automatically in the application, so you won't have to enter them yourself. Be sure to keep a copy of your registration in a safe place - you will need your registration if you get a new computer or if you already have more than one.

If you've decided to choose the Later button, and then find yourself in the midst of a game that you decide you would really like to save, you won't want to leave the program in order to reach the splash screen. Instead, you can just select the Buy Seahaven Towers... menu item in the Info menu, and you will be led through the same process described above.

A second way to buy the program is via the webstore. When you use this method the installer will be downloaded at the end of your purchase and you will be sent a registration name and serial number via email. Once you have installed the application, start it and enter your registration name and serial number on the splash screen (this works if you're running 2.0.1 or later - if you still have 2.0.0, which you can tell by looking in the upper right hand corner of the splash screen, we strongly recommend that you download and install 2.0.3 first). Don't choose Buy Online - you've already done that. When the EULA comes up, read the terms (you've already agreed to the same license by this point, in all likelihood), agree to them, and click Play when that button becomes enabled. A new game of Seahaven will be dealt, and you're on your way.

Cross-platform Issues

Files created by Longwood Wizards Guild applications are designed to be cross-platform. You can email a document to a friend and if your friend has the same application, your friend should be able to open it without difficulty. It won't matter whether the document was created by a MacOS user or a Windows user, and it won't matter whether your friend is a MacOS user or a Windows user. This feature is true of both Seahaven Towers game documents as well as Longwood Archive documents.

Upgrading to a Newer Version

If you inspect your Info menu you will see an item called Check For Updates. If you have entered a valid registration this menu item will be enabled. If you select it, it will visit the eSellerate servers to find out if a more recent version of Seahaven Towers 2.0 is available. If it is not, you will see a dialog which tells you that you are running the most recent release available, and your only option will be to hit the okay button. However, if a newer version is available, you will be given two choices, to cancel or continue. If you choose to continue, the eSellerate system will present you with a series of dialogs that give you information (such as the new Release Notes) and gather your information. If you continue through to the end of this process, you will be asked if you wish to save any open documents (documents set to save automatically will be saved and closed automatically). You can cancel the upgrade process while you're saving documents, but let's assume for the moment that you continue. Your documents are saved, then Seahaven launches the updater and quits. The updater checks to make sure you're running the correct version of the file (the updater will not work on a file that has been modified in any way - it would get very, very confused). Once it has verified that, it modifies your old application to bring it up to date, whereupon the updater launches the newly upgraded Seahaven Towers. Seahaven Towers then finds those documents you had open and reopens them. You should pull down the View Registration item in the Info menu to see what version you're running now. Look in the upper right hand corner to see the current version number.
