Haniport Levee documentation for users of Mac OS X

Haniport Levee ReadMe file

Welcome to Haniport Levee from the Longwood Wizards Guild. This information corresponds to Haniport Levee version 1.0.1.

This document describes Haniport Levee for users of MacOS X and Windows XP. The software and documentation are provided to you in accordance with your license agreement.

If you have installation problems, check for help online at

http://webstore.longwood.com/macos/lwht/LwHtFAQs.html

We encourage you to read our license agreement carefully before agreeing to it. We think you'll like our Household License, especially if you have both Mac® and Windows® computers in your home.

And now, we'd like to anticipate some questions.

SHOULD I TRY BEFORE I BUY?

Yes. We strongly encourage you to try the software on your system to make sure it functions as you expect before you purchase a license. This is especially true if you plan to run the software on MacOS 9 (see restrictions above).

HOW DO I INSTALL THE PROGRAM?

Just run the Installer and answer the various questions on the screen as they come by.

For users of MacOS X (and MacOS 9):

Haniport_0101_Installer.app

For users of Windows 2000 and Windows XP:

Haniport_0101_Installer.exe

WHAT'S CHANGED FROM THE PREVIOUS VERSION?

This is version 1.0.1gm, the second public version of Haniport Levee 1.0, though the first version was available to a very limited audience in order to further verify the quality of the product. When compared against the features found in our earlier product (Seahaven Towers 2.0) the user may note major improvements in menu layout, preference and properties panels, and the help browser. When compared against version 1.0.0gm, the user will note a number of bugs have been fixed, but otherwise no new features have been added.

IS THERE ANY DOCUMENTATION?

Yes. The built-in help system contains a lot of information about the game, and you can reach it by selecting the Help Topics menu item from the Help menu. The Haniport Levee 1.0 Manual will eventually be available at our website, but it is not there just yet.

We did not include a manual in the installer because it added a lot of size to the installer and didn't have anything more to say than what was already in the embedded help system.

WHERE IS THE LOG FILE?

The log file is kept in the Longwood Wizards Guild folder, in a subfolder entitled Logs.

ARE THERE ANY KNOWN ISSUES?

There are some cosmetic issues with drawing and text editing (rarely encountered), but that's all we've uncovered thus far.

For the latest news on bugs and other issues, check online at our page for Frequently Asked Questions:

http://webstore.longwood.com/macos/lwht/LwHtFAQs.html

SHOULD I REPORT A BUG?

Yes, please. Our resources are pretty limited so we can't guarantee when a bug will be fixed or if it will be fixed, but we are certainly striving to make our products as good as possible, so we'd like to hear about problems. By comparison, the 2.0.3 release of Seahaven Towers has only two outstanding minor bugs that should be fixed if and when a 2.0.4 release is made available.

HOW DO I REPORT A BUG?

Please use our online feedback form. Select Contact in the menu above, or just click here.

WHAT SHOULD I INCLUDE WITH THE BUG?

It would be helpful to know:

* what you were doing or trying to do;
* what bad or unexpected thing happened;
* which OS you were running (MacOS 9, MacOS X, Windows 2000, Windows XP);
* which version of the OS you were running (9.1, 10.3.2, Service Pack 2, etc.)
* what kind of computer you were using; and,
* for users of MacOS 9, how much memory you have.

If a problem shows up as an alert with one or more cryptic numbers in parentheses, sending us such numbers (which pinpoint where the error is) would be very helpful.

WHAT OS VERSIONS DO YOU SUPPORT?

We support users of MacOS X and Windows XP.

WHAT ARE THE ARCHIVES FOR?

Archives allow you to share interesting games with friends without sending along all your scores and statistics. They also allow you to easily send along several games at a time. Archives can hold games from both Seahaven Towers 2.0 and Haniport Levee 1.0, as well as a few other types of data.

HANIPORT LEVEE VERSION 1.0.1 RELEASE NOTES

Here are the Release Notes for version 1.0.1 of Haniport Levee. The Release Notes for 1.0.0 are also included after these notes.

New features in this release

There are no new features as compared to the first release, the 1.0.0 release, wherein everything was new.

Bugs fixed in this release

1. A menu activation problem has been identified and eliminated.
2. The latest eSellerate security fixes have been included.
3. Undo problems related to removed pieces (via the Guarded Portal) have been fixed.
4. Problems with Revert to Saved have been fixed.
5. The Choose Difficulty menu item is now correctly set for an untitled document
6. The Sound Effects and Visual Effects menu items are now checked menu items instead of toggles.
7. Some cosmetic issues in the Help system have been addressed.

Outstanding issues in this release

[All Users]

1. Credits flicker while rolling (cosmetic)
2. Cosmetic issues when resizing an editor document (very rarely encountered)
3. Cosmetic issues when selecting text in an editor document (very rarely encountered)
4. The inactive color the the search pane in the help browser is incorrect (cosmetic)
5. Selection problems for search field in browser
6. There are some unavoidable conflicts with Seahaven Towers regarding archives and opening foreign archives in Seahaven which may result in an archive not opening as expected. There are no known bad consequences, it just doesn't open (rarely encountered)
7. Default puzzle titles not language sensitive (rarely encountered)
8. You can resize an archive window such that it's title lies off the screen and can't be reached (rarely encountered). Should this happen a workaround (at least on MacOS X) is to change your display's size to another value. This will generally force the improperly positioned window back onto the screen.
9. Volunteer Beta testers have submitted a number of feature requests that haven't yet been scheduled, but they are good things to consider for the 1.0.2 release. We expect lots of idea from early users of this product because most folks who have seen it so far agree that it is both classic (familiar) and yet unique, and such products often inspire lots of feature requests.

[MacOS 9 Users]

MacOS 9 was not a major focus of our development efforts, so there may be a few bugs to be discovered.

1. The Help browser menu item is occasionally not present. Clicking on a different window may cause it to reappear. If not, the help browser can be activated from the question mark button in the Rules Panel in the Document Properties section of a Haniport Levee puzzle document.

[MacOS X Users]

1. Sound handling on MacOS X will be delayed slightly while the OS launches the many processes it needs to launch to play a sound. We attempted to add a "silent" sound to get things started, but the OS decides to normalize the volume for such sounds and this resulted in a short but very audible and annoying sound which didn't seem at all aesthetically pleasing so it was abandoned.

[Windows Users]

1. Opening multiple icons from the desktop doesn't always open all the referenced documents. As a workaround they may be opened directly from the application using the Open menu item in the File menu.
2. The Archive Info window is not correctly laid out.
3. Pasting text can sometimes cause a problem. We fixed a problem that might have been causing this but the problem was intermittent so we're still on the lookout for it.

HANIPORT LEVEE VERSION 1.0.0 RELEASE NOTES

Here are the Release Notes for version 1.0.0 of Haniport Levee.

New features in this release

This is the first public release of Haniport Levee 1.0. Everything is new!

Bugs fixed in this release

This is the first public release of Haniport Levee 1.0. Our volunteer Beta testers have seen lots of bugs being fixed, but those don't count for this release.

Outstanding issues in this release

[All Users]

1. Credits flicker while rolling (cosmetic)
2. Cosmetic issues when resizing an editor document (very rarely encountered)
3. Cosmetic issues when selecting text in an editor document (very rarely encountered)

8. There is a hard to find bug where using Undo To Start doesn't return all pieces to the left side of the board. So far we don't know how to reproduce this state so we haven't been able to track it down. Game play is not affected and nothing bad seems to happen as a result.
9. You can resize an archive window such that it's title lies off the screen and can't be reached (rarely encountered). Should this happen a workaround (at least on MacOS X) is to change your display's size to another value. This will generally force the improperly positioned window back onto the screen.
10. Volunteer Beta testers have submitted a number of feature requests that haven't yet been scheduled, but they are good things to consider for the 1.0.1 release.

We attempted to add a "silent" sound to get things started, but the OS decides to normalize the volume for such sounds and this resulted in a short but very audible and annoying sound which didn't seem at all aesthetically pleasing so it was abandoned.
2. Incorrect menus are sometimes active for a window. We've only seen this when the development system was also running, but it's something we're on the lookout for. This may also manifest as menu items (such as cut, copy, or paste) that are not active when they should be. Clicking in another window and then returning to the window of choice will usually fix this.

[Windows Users]

1. Opening multiple icons from the desktop doesn't always open all the referenced documents. As a workaround they may be opened directly from the application using the Open menu item in the File menu.
2. The Archive Info window is not correctly laid out.
